Alienware is WAY too expensive. Build it yourself and save about $1000. I kid you not!

BUilding a puter is very easy. Get a box that has the footprint of the mainboard you want (ATX or miniATX). Get a graphics card. Get a sound card (not really necessary, but I recommend it). Get a DVD RW drive and two harddrives. Add in a keyboard and a mouse, and keep your old monitor. You're done. It's really very easy!

You can save even more by buying last year's top of the line hardware. It was top of the line a year ago, so it's very capable! But if you want the best there is, you'll still save by assembling it yourself.

I haven't bought a new computer in over 15 years. I wouldn't even if I could afford it. You can save BUNDLES over your lifetime, by just upgrading your rig.

The last time I built a rig, I had my box completely empty and had it in the kitchen sink to wash it. I put in a new mainboard, new processor, 2G of ram, a hard drive, and graphics card. It took me all of 8 hours to get it built and the OS up and running. After that, it's all downhill.

You can do it. Honest! It's not that difficult. More than anything, all you need is confidence! It's really hard to go wrong. All the parts fit together one way and only one way. It's very hard to screw it up.

Build it yourself and SAVE!

Ummm, kind of hard to home build a Laptop computer even with todays technology I would think.

I do however look forward to the day that laptops are modular and we go pick out the shell, mainboard, cpu etc just like we do when building a desktop today.  That will be awsome and we'll be having as diverse laptops as we do desktops today.
