Hi,
You may be pleased to hear that EA has announced the expansion pack or add on pack or city pack to SimCity: Societies.

You can find more details here: http://simcitysocieties.ea.com/destinations.php

In case the page gets removed by them for what ever reason (sometimes EA does that....) Here is the little blurb about it and a photo:

SimCity Societies Destinations

New City Pack filled with content and features coming soon!

From unspoiled nature parks with campgrounds and hiking trails to tropical beach resorts with water sports and fine dining, from humble county fairs with hay rides and midway games, to sprawling modern theme parks with all the bells and whistles, you’ll build an entire city based on attracting visitors, and keeping them entertained and satisfied.  (sort of sounds like Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 to me at the moment)

Below are some of the images from the page with some text to read about what is being included.

Heres some, somewhat closer up views of the screenies in the above post:

1. A pool

2. A beach resort area

3. Octupus city?

4. The Harbor Area.

Oh wait!  That's not a pic of SimCity: Societies, that's a harbor area of a SimCity game.  Sorry just had to get that jive in there.  Yeah, Im still lovin SimCity 4 a whole lot more than SimCity: Societies at the moment, perhaps the expansion will do something to change that but in all honesty I'm kind of doubting it.Laughing

I'm interested to find out what 100 buildings they are including and if they have decided to include some more ordinary homes in the expansion, also wondering if they are including many more props or no more.  I think it's been said many times on their own forums that people would like to have many more props to place in the backyards of the houses so as to try to individualize the homes.  It looks really wonky having the same BBQ in the backyard of everybody's home really.  No, really.  We need trampolines, and real usable pools, and swing sets (for the home, not park sized), and tree houses that are the right size, and lawn furniture, and lawn gnomes and flower gardens and so much more.

Then again Tilted Mills has never produced a game where they really go for the beautification items, it was rather limited in Children of the Nile and it was limited in Caesar IV and it is again in SimCity: Societies, Im not sure why they don't get this message when it's been asked for/about in all three games now.  I guess to them it's just not that important.

Anyway, I'll be watching to see what they actually include in ways of the new buildings.  There was a time when i wouldn't have hesitated to buy an expansion if for no other reason then to have a complete package but in the past year I've gotten to the point where I really want quantity and quality and substance in the games that I play.  I think that SimCity 4 has spoiled me with all the great mods and custom content that is available for it.  SimCity: Societies could surely benefit from having this type of custom content and mods that SimCity 4 has I think.

Meanwhile it's been discussed that they created their buildings in 3DSMax 9 so the headers state on the model files which means they have to be using that to create the buildings, so all they should need to do is give us the same plugin that they use to export the models out of 3DSMax to get them into the game, why the hesitation I wonder.  My guess .... They are concerned that if people can create the custom content themselves then there is little reason to buy an expansion pack UNLESS it provides some really great new gameplay features.  From the short blurb that EA has written (in the first post to this thread) it seems like this will be more like one of those "glamour" packs that get released for The Sims 2, the ones that don't add gameplay but only add extra items to use in the game.  I know, "build a city to attract and keep visitors happy" would be gameplay but not really different than what is going on now.  We have to keep the people happy now, so that leaves the new buildings that they are giving for this expansion, hence a good reason not to give out the plugin to allow people to create custom buildings since it would be a direct competion with the expansion if they did.

I think it highly likely that if they do ever give out the plugin for it, it will be after they have released all the expansions they plan on releasing so that there won't be any competition between user custom content and having to pay for the extra buildings that TM creates.  Just my opinion though.

Hope you all enjoy it.

P.S. The Airport looks too small.  That jumbo jet looks to be about 1/4 the size of the runway.  I hope that's just an optical illusion.
