Tropico 3 "Absolute Power" expansion pack releases on steam today for $19.99
Tropico 4 has been announced.

MonteCristo,
the developers of Cities XL have filed for protection in the Paris courts today.  The title  (CitiesXL) which they kept saying was being worked on for a new name release of Cities 2011 has been reported that it was bought by a yet unnamed publisher but who would be named when this buyer feels like coming out of the closet and letting the world know that they bought the game.
Update: Game was sold to Focus Home Interactive.  Everyone here at CBG wishes them well and know that with enough determination, and listening to the community they will turn around what MonteCristo failed to do.

10/4/2010
Focus Home Interactive, the new owners of Cities XL, (the city building game) has announced recently that owners of the original Cities XL 2009 will be able to purchase Cities XL 2011 at a 50% discount.   This is surely good news for Cities XL enthusiasts as it will be similar in price as purchasing an expansion pack depending on the price that FHI sets for CXL 11.  You will Need your original Cities XL 2009 serial number to obtain this discount and as we've read recently, you will be able to get this special pricing both from purchasing the game from the Cities XL website as well as on the Steam platform.

Focus Home Interactive has now restored order to the CitiesXL.com website by adding their own forums again.  This is surely good news as it allows a direct ear to FHI from the players.  Hopefully they will be monitoring it and listening to the players unlike Montecristo that did monitor but didn't do much listening.
Want to find out what is going to be present in Cities XL 2011?  You should head over to the official forums and check out the 'Beta thread'  for the information.
My opinion: It's definitely worth buying, especially if you already have the 2009 version so that you can get the 50% discount.

For all the Industry Giant and Transport Giant fans out there. . .  Nordic games has acquired Jowood, and they seem to be open to supporting a lot of JoWoods old labels.   Perhaps they might be ready to work on an updated version of Industry Giant or Transport Giant (IG2 was released 10 years ago!) if they hear from enough of us.  Their contact page is at:

Hopefully we can deluge them with enough emails to...

Hello,

I didn't see any topics about 0Ad and since it is an rts and not a city builder game there is no forum for it.   However there is a lot of potential with this game since it will have the option for full custom modding which is great.

"0 A. D.  is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy game under development by Wildfire Games.  It is a historical war and economy game focusing on the years between 500 B. C.  and A....

Hello,

I just recently found out about this forum and it's great to see people still playing various city builder games.   I myself am still exploring old and new games when I have the time and occasionally have ideas for new games.   I have posted lists of city builder games and ideas for potential new games in various forums.

For ancient city builders I posted here in the Heavengames City Builder Forum:

So from dust is $5 on steam... and after all the hype I had for this game, I still don't feel it is worth $5 considering all its bad press...
But if you were ever interested in the game, it is on sale for the week.

So just a quick word to say that I'm enjoying the hell out of Terraria.  Wishing it was more 3D like minecraft, but overall I like how much stuff there is to craft and that there are boss mobs that I need to kill (eventually), all and all it's quite enjoyable, if I can somehow make a slime trap that automatically kills the slimes and collects the money and gel, I'd be in heaven in this game.  I'd set one trap on each side of my house/castle in the making just to...

I don't know if anyone here is playing AOE:O
but they just released a skirmish booster pack (free for a while) that makes the game almost exactly like AOC and I am in complete nostalgia mode!  It is not 100% complete but you can do up to 2v4 with a friend for classic age battles - they even added a bunch of the classic maps (even with Black Forest [my all time favorite!] :D).

To me all skirmish mode is missing is up to 4v4 (or even 2v2v2v2, etc.) end game statistics,...

I heard about this game a while ago and never bothered with it.  But I got it as part of the last Humble Indie bundle and just tried it yesterday.  It is great!

For those who haven't heard of it: first, it's 2D and 4:3 ratio, but other than that the art direction and atmosphere is brilliant.  You play a pilot of a flying machine (sort of a barrel not much bigger than a man) with massive weapons attached to it - flails, swords, axes, hammers etc.  You fly...

This looks very interesting.  It's a voxel world similar to Minecraft, though smoothed.  Like Minecraft, the world is fully dynamic, in that it can be dug through and reshaped etc.  The goal is to build your own castle (by handplacing where each brick should go) and defend it from AI or other players.  Early stages yet but it's looking great.

Hi,

Does anybody know where to get or have the fix so that Industry Giant 2 can be played with modern video cards?

I dug up the disk a few moments ago and would like to play this on the new laptop that I got for christmas, but unfortunately the GTX 560m is way too modern and I know there was a user created patch to make the game work with modern day video cards but since the demise of JoWood and their website, I can't find the fan based patch that fixes the issues.

Admittedly this is time split between me and my son (until I got him his own PC), but I think you can safely say that this game has value for money:

I'm sure you've all heard of or played this.  For those that haven't, it's basically 2D minecraft with many more adventure elements, and as of patch 1.1, quite a lot of features.  And as you can...

I'm not sure if anyone else is as crazy about large islands in MC as I am. But if you are I found a map I thought was really cool. I wasn't sure that you could even get islands of this size in the game. I figured you probably would only get super large(endless?) continents or really small islands. So I was delighted to find in this map that not to far from spawn, about x300 z600 is a large mountainous island that is about 400x250 meters square. Then just to the south of...

I figure I could wait till Christmas where it would probably show up on a steam sale, and also know that many of the initial bugs have been squashed, but I don't know if I can do it...

The game is calling, and the buy now button is so appealing... lol

Smiley Blink Well the release date for this game is getting nearer and I'm still in two minds whether to pre order it or wait until the price drops a bit. There are things I like and other bits that leave me underwhelmed. Frankly considering they have had 10 years to tinker with it and are using the new Havoc game engine to produce the new physics, I'm not all that impressed.

I liked playing Stronghold 2 for all its shortcomings, for this new release they seem to have gone back to...

The iPhone was introduced largely as a consumer product.  But such was its power and beauty, it wasn't long before the debate of "how good is iPhone for businesses" started raging.  This article presents the pros and cons of iPhone as a business tool, and taking HyperOffice as a case in study, discusses how web based apps have truly taken this originally consumer device into the business realm.

the knights and merchants thread reminded me of another somewhat similar game, that i wanted to see if anyone else had played.

Seven Kingdoms
Seven Kingdoms : Ancient Adversaries

There are other games in the series, but I have only played the earlier versions.

A great game with multiple avenues for success. Raise an army and go to town, or as i generally chose, build a economic powerhouse and dominate the map. Fun either way. I liked controlling all the...

Hello Everyone,

I am surprised that there isn't a single post about the game Knights and Merchants.

I have played (and replayed) this game dozens of times and I find it to be one of the better City Builder/RTS games out there.  I would rate it as my second favorite with Settlers 2 (both releases) being my favorite.

I am curious as to why such a gem of a game was overlooked.

There was a way to view your(and others) current skin on the minecraft.net site. I believe it was on your profile page.

Has that been removed? I have not tried to look at it for some time, but while looking for it today could not find it.

So I really had no interest in this game, but it is getting quite a few good reviews, and the trailers had me interested.  Did not plan on picking it up, rather I was going to wait for the price to drop, but the users on steam were talking about greenmangaming.  They have some pretty sweet deals... if you buy from them and use 20SUM-MERSA-VINGS you get 20% off.
Nice thing about Deus Ex is it is a steamworks game so redeemable on steam!  Got the Enhanced edition for $40!

I've been interested in buying Anno 1404/Dawn of Discovery, but I've had concerns over buying the Gold edition.  I continually see a lot of issues pop up regarding its DRM and activation key problems which worry me (stopped me from biting at the gamersgate sale, in fact).

I am also aware that the box-version of DoD skips over much of its hassles as there's no problems involving activation keys and the DRM was patched out of those.  As a result,...

any one else have this game?  I picked up the complete package on steam during the summer sale, and it is probably one of the most involved rts with quite the learning curve.  I am still trying to get into it and learn whats on top of the entire package, but I can't wait to get even deeper into the game.

With that said, playing this game with an ally (as you always compete against the AI) seems like it can make the game even better and would like to give it a try).

I may have said this before, but from a pure 'city builder' standpoint with graphics taken into consideration, I find this game pretty hard to top in terms of replayability.  I've logged well over 200 hours on it and am back playing it again, doing the scenarios in the Venice add on for the FIRST TIME.  I love this thing, and again, it makes me SAD and angry as to what they're doing w/ Anno 2700....

This thing rocks.
