Tropico 3 "Absolute Power" expansion pack releases on steam today for $19.99

06/03/2010
MonteCristo,
the developers of Cities XL have filed for protection in the Paris courts today.  The title  (CitiesXL) which they kept saying was being worked on for a new name release of Cities 2011 has been reported that it was bought by a yet unnamed publisher but who would be named when this buyer feels like coming out of the closet and letting the world know that they paid good money for bad rubbish.

We are of course still hoping that this yet unnamed publisher can get out the polishing rag and polish up this turd into a bright shining example of how to do a 3D city building game right.

I believe that everybody involved in the city building genre, though we are small know of the saga of Cities XL, the game who's simulation core is nearly non existant and who's individualism of cities is also non existant, but who with enough spit and polish could turn a dull turd, into a bright shining turd, into a game that we all want to buy and play.  But heed my words Mr or Mrs un named publisher, if you re release this title without adding enough polish to it, your bean counting department is going to have a very easy job of counting the beans that you earn as there is few at this point that would buy a Cities 2011 if it has not had the proper overhauling.

How about it, Mr. or Mrs secretive publisher, is it time to come out of the closet yet, and let everybody know who it is that has bought this steaming pile of coding?

I bought a copy of this game, add on Anno 1404 Venice a few days back from Amazon.  The choice to buy came from two shops,
GoGamer. com and BLS mart.  I chose GoGamer, they shipped from southern Ca. , I got it expidited and paid total $39. 00+change.

When it arrived the packaging had no markings to show that it was a North Am or USA version or UK/Euro version it looked very much generic so I opened it and as I often do ignored the thin manual and popped it into my...

Hi folks,

I've pretty much forgotten how to do little things in Tropico 3.  Comes with old age and from playing so many different games I suppose.

Anyway, in Tropico 3 (no expansion installed), almost all the buildings have rather sizable piles of garbage that has piled up, some with huge dumpsters with overflowing trash.  Hell, even the ranches have a pile of trash out in the fields.

I've looked through the edicts and enacted the pollution...

Can anyone explain how to use the trade map?  Also how does it work with traders?  I know on the tech map you create clerics and then send them via the map to unlock technologies.   Is it similar on the trade map?  Do you create traders then send them to unlock trade routes?  If someone could post a more thorough explanation I would appreciate it.

I broke down and bought the game as I really loved all the videos that people made.   I have played through the first 4 campaign scenarios but this game seems so different from other economy games.

I play Anno 1404 and it has a very defined building scenario, from what each level needs and what you do to build up.   This is really the first Settlers game I have played.

I am having a really difficult time understanding what it is I am supposed to do so I was...

Hi,
If you are getting the server unavailable or other connection error message in Settlers 7 you may want to try this...  This was suggested on the official Settlers 7 forum and it would appear that they removed the thread even though this works.

First though I must get the disclaimer out of the way...

Hi Folks,

Attached to this message is my Settlers 7 crib sheet in pdf format.  It is by no means done, this is a PDF preview, the full version when done will be available as a Google Spreadsheet document and assuming I finish it and can do all that I want to do will be interactive (as much as a spreadsheet can be).

The current pdf document attached here can be used as a printed document or viewed on your second monitor if you have one and is just a basic crib sheet...

Here is a post I made on the ubi forums regarding the options in the game.  The parlax image (last one) is reported as being useless since there is nothing in the scene to show off the paralax option, so I'll make another post below this one with the links to images that another user made on the ubi forums showing off paralax.

Note that each image should be clickable so that you can see the image at it's full 1680x1050 screen size.

I thought this was great especially since I am never likely to get down and play that close to the ground to see all that great stuff like the sun rays, and the little animations that the peeps do in the game.

The only thing I wonder about is the dynamic weather system as I've not seen any rain or other weather thus far.

Hi Guys and Gals,  I'm just keeping this list of "known" bugs that Bluebyte has acknowledged for you in case any of us run up against them....

I just read this post from BlueByte about map 10 and thought you should be aware of it before you get to that map:

1.  "Unfortunately there's a bug causing corrupt (ie crash on load) savegames on map 10 - you will have to beat that map without savegames until the next patch is out - sorry"

Okay, I'll post my thoughts, as they progress, in this thread...Full Disclosure for some of the new folks, I tend to be very forgiving of games once I buy them.  Essentially, I feel like once I've shoveled out the cash, I might as well be a glass-half-full type of person, so please take any 'positive' comments about any game I talk about (with the exception of the The Guild series, which ROCKS UNDENIABLY!!!!) with that caveat in mind...just want to be honest with where...

Im wondering, maybe it's not in the real game, but in the demo, it's hard to not make your city look like a big pile of mess. With the shoddy workspaces occupying around your oterhwise good looking buildings, having them around in your city ends up looking more like you're making a base, instead of a city.

Hi, just locating the Venice manual (if you can call it that) here for preservation I guess you could say.  Ok, an easy place for me to find it later when it's hidden in the annuls of my computer someplace.

As you can see, it's about as thin as the addon (sorry, I couldn't resist Laughing)

I know, it's pretty unconcievable that they would name an addon after a culture and not offer up Venetian Islands to build on, but it seems that is the case.

There is one Venetian island in the game, and it's owned by one of the island masters (like Sir Richard or the guy from the southern islands) but thus far in Continuous mode there is no venetian buildings or islands that venice canals can be built on.

I am disappointed to be honest.  For some reason I...

I love the way this shows the houses on the canals.

EDIT: Unfortunately, we've since found out that this view of Venice is only capable of being built by the AI on one island on each map, it is of the Venetian AI and we don't have the capabilities of building our own "Venice" in the game "Venice" strangely enough

UBISOFT® ANNOUNCES ANNO 1404 VENICE THE OFFICIAL ANNO 1404 ADD-ON

Anno 1404 universe expands, and now features an online multiplayer mode

LONDON, UK – November 24th, 2009 – Today Ubisoft announced Anno 1404 Venice, the add-on for Anno 1404, the acclaimed real-time strategy and simulation game released earlier this year. Anno 1404 Venice will combine the signature gameplay mechanics of Anno 1404 and the richness of the Venetian culture. In addition, gamers will now be able to play Anno 1404 with their friends thanks to the new online multiplayer mode. The add-on is due to release next February 2010 in EMEA territories.

“With Anno 1404 Venice we are proud to bring a whole new dimension to gamers by letting them experience new multiplayer challenges online with their friends” said John Parkes, marketing director EMEA at Ubisoft, “we're confident that this add-on will please fans of the series as well as newcomers to the franchise.”

Key Features of ANNO 1404 Venice :

    • The rich Anno 1404 environment gets complemented with a new Venetian setting offering new possibilities of interaction:
o Build two new Venetian ship types: the small and big tradesman cog
o Develop secret cabinets, infiltrate your enemies and sabotage their expansion
o Take control over enemy cities thanks to your influence in the cities’ council board

    • Play Anno 1404 online in a multiplayer mode:
o Choose to play versus or coop to defeat the AI by combining your techniques
    o Up to 8 players

    • New challenges and quests:
o Up to 60 new items and 300 new quests with two new types: trading race and ship boarding
o Discover and exploit a new type of island, the Volcano island
o New scenarios to face new challenges with new achievements, medals and crests

Make sure you visit the official website http://anno.ubi.com and find out more info on Anno 1404.

Kalypso's site posts system requirements. They're pretty hefty. The recommended specs state that a dual core processor is recommended. I don't have one of those*. Is anyone playing T3 with a single core? If so, how well does it run?

It's encouraging, though. This game, judging by it's system reqs, is multi-threaded. There are few of these that I know of. Is gaming finally going to make dual cores  useful? I certainly hope so! It's about time,...

2. Does having herding animals outside the compounds affect the beauty to tourists when they run into a cattle wandering in downtown Tropico?

I know that there has been quite a lot of talk on the forum on Tropico 3's website about coming out with expansion packs for tropico 3. I think that once they fix the major bugs in the game itself that they the developers need to come out with expansion packs or add on packs to further enhance the game. One pack or add on would be a pack with more buildings like different farming buildings, maybe more types of hotels and maybe even include a editor in which you can create your very own...
